This is sort of a place holder.

Some of you know that i've been doing Race for the Cure (fundraiser for breast cancer treatment and research) for the past few years. This year i have a team. I encourage all of you to eithe join my team, or donate money to it.

Okay, some information about the race:

This is a 5K road race, which runs along the Alaskan Way Viaduct in downtown Seattle. A portion of your registration, plus any extra donations you can scare up, goes to breast cancer charities. This charity is run by Puget Sound Komen, which has an excellent rating in terms of their responsible use of the funds they raise.

The race itself is on June 16 this year. You can sign up for a women's only timed run, a co-ed timed run, a co-ed walk, or even a 'sleep in for the cure'. It is a nice route to run - lots of fun to look out over Puget Sound or downtown. If you are training for other things this summer, its a great way to break into the season. If you aren't, you can either use this event as inspiration to get some walking and running in this spring, or just plan to walk it with no advance preparation.

As an aside - last year i'd wanted to do a brunch or something, but it sort of fell through. If we get a good crowd this year i may try that again, or team shirts or something... No promises yet, but, if that sort of thing drives you, let me know.

Hope to see you there!

And plus this year you have to walk with me :P

Gotta figure out the last few details, but I'd like to reserve your guest room, please :)

I'd like to join!

I think it's funny that neither the link you posted nor http://www.seattleraceforthecure.org/ tells me what the date is. :)

But if you click on the "register" link, the form tells you June 16, 2007 :)

Yep, that was my next step. :)

I'm pretty unhappy with the interface right now, actually. I should write to them and explain my problems with it.

I think the race information is hard to find. I also haven't figured out how to log into my account without pretending i'm going to register a new person first. Blah.

Okay, now that I found the date - I'm hoping I can make it, but I'm not sure. The schedule is tight with school, and I'm guessing I won't have a place to stay in Seattle at that point. But I will try!

my sister just claimed out guest room...

I think you can sign up at the last minute, though, and you certainly don't need to sign up today. We'd love to have you if you can make it!

Phew, good thing I got my dibs in early! Especially if I manage to bring two monkeys with me! :)

If worse comes to worst and you can deal with dogs running around the house, I have a sofabed couch that's crashable that I can offer (but you'd probably want to ask around elsewhere first...)

Since I don't think other people can see what I signed up for, I'll say that I signed up for the co-ed run. I am planning on running it, though I don't yet have a time goal.

I'm now juggling all kinds of things 'specially so I can somehow pull this off. :) Cuz, well, I miss you!

good point, are you walking or running this year? I will walk, but not run, as usual -- but I think I can actually make it. I'll join the team if there's another confirmed walker...

I'm planning on walking. I think Heidi just said she would be walking, and i will probably try to talk Josh into it. Maybe others, too. Will be thrilled to have you.

Awesome, okay, I'll try to remember to sign up later when I'm at home.
The Mariners are actually out of town that day so a brunch seems a lot more likely if we can get our acts together -- would it make sense to plan it at someone's house rather than at a restaurant?

Do you have to run it "in the flesh"?

There is a "Sleep In For The Cure" option. :)

From: [identity profile] mh75.livejournal.com
You can 'sleep in for the cure' which means you sign up, but don't run or walk (I think it costs $5 more). You can also donate directly to the team without signing up at all.

Hrm. I'll have to figure out what's the best course of action. I don't have any clue if anyone out here is planning a team or not. The 'sleep in' option would probably be appropriate since I will probably be asleep while you are running/walking. Hrph.

Can I bring my dogs? I bring them for the Jingle Bell Run, where I walk the 5K. I can do it in just under an hour. :)
