Playlist:
Arab Strap: Monday at the Hug & Pint
Clem Snide: The Ghost of Fasion
Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Yanqui U.x.o (at least, i think thats right)
Cinerama: Cinerama Holiday
Fri: Went to the ball game with Josh. we won. yay! Philly beat Baltimore in a 17 inning maration, and Boston got like 25 runs against Boston. Katje & kids came to stay, and were found reading Harry Potter in our living room. It is lucky that i had to pack, or i would have listened.
Sat: Incredible! I went hiking with Eli and Heidi. Woke up & got my hair braided by Katje (i need to be more generous with braiding. It is nice to have neatly braided hair.). Got Eli, got Heidi, went to store.
The hike was Lake Serene (or Serene Lake?) about 25 miles east on rte 2. It was around 3.75 miles up to the lake, and the same back, with a 1 mile round trip detour to see the water falls.
First, let me say, Eli and Heidi are good hiking companions. They are willing to get a little sweaty, and better than i am at noticing glorious trees and flowers and sometimes even leaves. Oh, and a couple of slugs.
Anyhoo. It was a beautiful day - warm and sunny. The forest had that luminous green look.
We stopped a few times on the way up - found some great rocks under water falls, and a bridge under the big ones. We got to the Lake after a billion stairs, and the world opened up onto this sheer shiny mirror, nestled between our shrubby trail and some glacier coated peaks.
We ate lunch in the shade (because Heidi and Eli are smarter than me), and finished by sunning ourselves on a rock. At which point the lake was calling my name so loudly that i forced E&H to find an entry point. (After much waffling, of which I am ashamed, but can't seem to control.) Swimming was incredibly glorious. Eli joined me, and proved to be braver when it came to getting in the water. But it was beautiful... and cold. and beautiful. I want to go again. This is what life is meant to be.
On the way down we went by the falls, and Eli fell over a cliff, and miraculously reappeared.
Had sushi for dinner.

Sunday: got up to have breakfast w/ Katje and kids. I am impressed by Julia, who has grown up a lot in the past year. Still don't click with the boys as much. It was a good breakfast with friends.
picked up Eli & Deanna for bowling, but hadda go to Sunset because Robin Hood was closed, and H&C&M decided not to come. My bowling skills have atrophied even more. ack! Regular practice must help somewhat.
Came home to work on the basement, but got distracted by a couch. Also, i wanted to take Caitlin to Costco with me. So i made her come even though she was sort of sleeping. Might have gone running, but my legs were still pretty sore from the hike. (I feel like a wimp - my calves are sore, those massive beasts, who knew they could be overworked?) Watched an episode of Good Eats with Josh in which there was a Court Bouillon, which prompted us to go to the Melting Pot for dinner. Now, i think i've been eating too much recently, and this is no remedy, but, dam, if it isn't good. Had fun hanging out with Josh.
Came home via a record store, and a book store. Got new albums (so much music, so little time), and new books. I got distracted in the childrens section and picked up Harry Potter, an old book by Madeleine L'Engle, and the first Artemis Fowle book.
Started some laundry.
What a good day.
So, We didn't work on the basement. Here are my goals for this week:
1) Finish up EA89 assignment at work - wipe my hands of it.
2) Clean first floor, which is in sad shape.
3) Finish first round of wallboard & tape * mud.
4) Finish Woman in White & Ella Minnow Pea.
5) Make plans with Catherine and Alasandra.
And, of course, all the stuff i want to do besides.
Someday soon Josh and I are going to have a Port & Coupling Party.
Notes on Arab Strap: So far so good. The vocals are a bit scratchy - i think i was hoping to Belle & Sebastian level, so this is a temporary drawback. I can't figure out how these guys are related to B&S. (In one place they say 'yeah, they like us, wrote a song about Aiden, and called their album after us' and in another 'We admired them so much that we named our band after their album'. Josh thought that one of the people from Arab Strap was in B&S, but i can't find any sort of confirmation or denial of that, either.)
