If i wanted a short drink with lots of foam, i would ask for one. I do not.

I don't understand why all the new baristas for this semester fail to see the distinction. Were they all trained by the same incompetent person? I've had to start requesting 'no foam', and being disappointed when i forget.

I am not in the mood for that this morning, especially with my new restricted latte rule.

Also, my last good albuterol just ran out. I'm down to the environmentally friendly versions. It is okay, but i'm going to miss the hit.

A cappuccino is also not a short drink with a lot of foam, but that rant sailed a long time ago.

A cappuccino is a drink with equal parts espresso, milk, and foam. A latte is a drink with more milk than espresso, and only a possible dollop of foam.

The key difference to me, aside from feeling cheated out of a few ounces of drink because the people who make the foamy drinks invariably also don't fill my mug, is that i don't like foam, so i don't want a friggin' cappuccino. I do not ask for one, and i do not expect to get one. I should not have to say 'latte, with no foam'.

Amen on the foam. The big Seattle chains (and, by extension, the rest of the US) have decided that a cappuccino is a 1.5oz of espresso buried in 10.5oz of air held in place by a hint of milk protein. So I get US-style lattes, which are basically just traditional cappuccinos with twice the milk.

The faces my mother makes when she forgets herself and tries ordering a cap in the US... they're priceless. It always makes her start telling stories about that cafe in Perugia, or Florence, or Paris.

Sometimes I think they put more foam in the cup to get away with using less milk (or soy milk). I'm with you on the "I shouldn't have to specify no foam" issue.

assuming inhalers: The propellant was changed. I am not positive of the specifics, but, my understanding is that the medicine is the exact same thing, but that the propellant was changed so that it is more environmentally friendly. (I think the old one had cfcs or something?)

The literature says that all studies showed no change in effectiveness between the inhalers. Studies showed that the new inhalers need to be cleaned more often (no big deal - its just rinsing them out), and that it was more important to use them correctly (again, not a big deal - i've been using these things for 25 years), but that the effectiveness was the same.

Thing is, NO ONE that i know who has made the switch likes the new ones as well. The propellant feels weaker, so you can't feel the spray enter your mouth and throat. Additionally, with the old one, you can feel the effects immediately opening your bronchi. With the new one i don't feel that.

My rescue puffs do stop my wheezing eventually, and my preventative puffs are too subjective for me to really quantify the effects. But, when i come in from a cold bike ride with tight lungs, i want to feel that immediate relief, and i don't.

assuming baristas: this being a university we get a new batch each semester. Of course i recognize those who have been around for a while. *grin*

God, this makes me cranky just to read it. I can't believe you have to ask for a latte with no foam.

I miss my job slinging coffee. It was easily one of the best jobs I ever had. I knew exactly how to do things, and I damn well did them right, and I took SUCH great care of my customers, and they loved me for it. You could see the relief on their faces when they walked in the door and saw me standing there.

That's it. I'm quitting college and opening a coffee shop.

It's the perfect recession project.

Well, I like a little foam but I do get pretty po'd when I have to slurp down 4 or 5 mouthfuls of foam just to get at my coffee. M doesn't like foam at all. So when I order him a warm milk with honey he frequently reminds me to tell them no foam. Heh.
