I really enjoy music. Music is one of the more important things in my life. I enjoy listening to music both when i can devote my brain to it, and when i need it to drive other activities. I find that I work better, and relax more when there is music on. I find it strange, therefore, that i don't put music on as soon as I come into work in the morning. Last week, when my office mate wasn't around to make me wear headphones, i listened to almost none. Perhaps I am learning to value quietness as well.
Anyway, heres my
Last week was relatively uneventful. On Tuesday I had a book club meeting, which I hosted. The book we read ("Bobos In Paradise"), was pretty meangingless, as far as I was concerned. We had some good discussion about it, but not too much.
Bookclub is a strange animal. It is a semi-random collection of 6/7 women. I like all of them individually, but I don't always like them in a group. For one thing, the conversation inevitably turns to childbirth, and child rearing. I really don't like this because a) it is not the only thing in the worl worth discussing, b) i don't have children right now, so i get left our a bit, c) the mothers have fallen into a tendency to be really self riteous, and sometimes down right rude. ack!
I guess also, the idea of having children is a very confusing one in my mind these days. I have all sorts of mixed emotions. It is complicated by the fact that Josh is not entirely interested in it, and that we haven't had too many really open conversations about the topic. I don't think i like being forced to think about it so much.
Also, since i had to clean for bookclub, i looked around and noticed how messy our house currently is. It really bothered me quite a bit. I've had the best intentions of cleaning since then, but haven't actually done it. Sigh.
On Wednesday i went to the gym. Yay, gym. I did 5 pushups. On Friday I went swimming. It was an easier work out than the last couple, perhaps partially because my shoulders are getting stronger. I was glad that i did it. On Saturday I went running, although Heidi and I kind of slacked. This week my gym is closed, so i guess i'll have to go running instead. It might be a nice change of pace.
On Friday night we watched the Mariners lose to the stupid Yankees. blah.
On Saturday, Josh and I did a fair amount of work around the house. We went to Home Depot and bought a new faucet for our kitchen sink. It is a bad ass faucet, and i like it. Also, it doesn't leak. The install went pretty well, and our kitchen sink is starting to look like its in good shape again.
We also bought paint. Now we have a red drawer, and yellow doors, and a green drawer. Still to come are indigo, and aqua. Its much better than Pink.
Also, Caitlin came over and sewed her dress. It was cool to have her hang out, and work on a project. It was a really nice afternoon.
I got the strange urge to make Chili on Sat., so I did that. I hadn't made chili before. I think it came out pretty well. (Josh seemed to be so-so about it. As usual, he likes more meat than i do.) I added Chipotle chilies, which i thought we a good addition to the flavor.
Sunday was a fiasco. It started out well, as Josh and i walked to IHOP for breakfast, and then to the Mall, and then home. (~4 miles all together.) I wanted to buy my office mate a wedding present at the mall, but failed. We bought an ice cream maker instead.
When we got home I went downstairs to do some laundry, thinking i'd finally get our bedroom cleaned up, and noticed that we had standing water all over one end of our basement. This could have been a disaster, as Josh keeps some games on the floor, including the rest of the Ascension stock. Ouch!
Luckily, Ascension was protected because it is in plastic boxes. Josh lost some of his collectable cards, and one game was ruined. (But the game should be replaceable.) Actually, i think we were lucky. I'm going to need to work with him to make sure we get all the games off the floor (or at least into rubbermaid tubs.)
Upon inspection we came to the conclusion that the water was from the washer. (Why i didn't notice it the night before when i did laundry, i don't know. Maybe because it was dark?) It was slightly soapy, and we can't figure where else it came from. Also, it is very dry out here right now, so its not likely to be water from outside.
Since our washer is like 35 years old, and consumer reports recommend not fixing anything older than 8, we bought a new one. Its a bad ass washer. Its a Kenmore Calypso, which is ultra efficient, for both electricity and water. It uses less than half the water of our current washer, and the estimated cost to run for one year is $8. Its really wild, and i'm excited about it. I wanted to buy a bad ass dryer too, but since ours isn't broken yet, we decided to put it off.
But, the evening was pretty shot, between the trip to Sears and cleaning and all. Plus, i think, some exhaustion on our parts. We did try to make ice cream, but we failed. I think things weren't cold enough. We will try again today.
And here I am at work again. I have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks. I made good progress on Friday, so i hope to keep it up. I will have to get started on it eventually, though. I am hoping to have some self discipline at work, so i can work decent hours and still get a lot done. It helps that i currently have a concrete list of tasks, and an order in which to do them. I think part of my problem last week was that I was stuck; i always work much better when i know what I am supposed to be doing.
