Not quite tangential:
I rather like reading about neurophysiology, although i'm also rather too lazy to read much that isn't made readable. I like it the best when there are some ideas of how to combine the understanding or neurophysiology with actual approaches to making the best of the brains we've got.

The article talks about the role the prefrontal cortex plays in modulating response from the amygdala, but it doesn't mention that planning for the future is one of the main functions of the prefrontal cortex. Anxiety seems to involve a lot of "what if?"s, so that seems relevant to me. The whole question about direction of causality still applies, though.
