I am near DC for business. My colleague and i were bummed that the hotel we used last time, the one with the super nice fitness center, was full. So, we're in a different hotel. This one has something cooler - they have little maps printed on plastic-coated, pocket-sized, cards. The maps have a 3 and a 5 mile running route on them. Every hotel should be this cool!
So, this afternoon, i took the wonderful spring weather, and went for a five mile run. It was pretty sweet.
Details: The cards aren't perfect - despite being put out by Runners Magazine they neglect to mention that about half of the route is along roads with no sidewalks. Since the roads are busy and the shoulders skinny, I ran on the grass on these portions. Not terrible in itself, athough i'm not used to running on such uneven ground, but there were also occasionally low-hanging trees over this area.
Still, the route was quite nice - through a couple of nice neigbhorhoods and around a golf course. The weather was also superb. My colleague also ran the 5 miles (faster than i did), and pretty much agreed with those plus and minuses.
Sadly, i screwed up, and forgot my inhaler. I'm sort of angry at myself (and wishing i had time to go redo the route) because my asthma really limited my speed tonight. Took me 63 minutes to do the 5 miles (with 2 or 3 long lights, and a stop to take a photo).
... I don't know whether i would be healthier or less so if i traveled more. I tend to be able to make time for a couple of good workouts. And i may eat less. But its also hard to find good healthy food to eat, and hard to get enough sleep.
