projects galore
Mar. 11th, 2006 09:58 pmSo, i've been working on some fingerless gloves. Just ribbed tubes, really. I got a pattern and some yarn at a nearby store.
The thing is, i haven't really been enjoying them. The yarn is awesome - green and chenille (maybe?) and so soft. But its a bit of a pain to knit with because you have to catch the string inside which i missed a bit in the beginning. Also, its on dpns, which, i don't really mind, but i don't love either, and they were even more of a pain combined with the tricky yarn. And then i had to take out the first try because it was too big. In short, i just haven't really been into them. Last night i finished the first one, followed the instructions to bind off, and.... ended up with a thumbless mitten that was way to short for my hand. Blah. I swear, i followed the directions, but... I do know how i could fix the problem if i do it again.
I tried to take out the last couple of rows, but this is really difficult yarn to frog, so i didn't have any luck. Sigh, i feel like such a putz with this project. It took me a while to get anywhere with it, and then i sort of fucked it up. I think i should stick to using the recommended yarn for projects - i don't think i'm a great judge of how to substitute yarn.
Which leaves me with a dilemma.... what to do? I really want fingerless gloves, but i'm pretty uninterested in starting over to make a pair with this yarn. I may get some simpler yarn to make them with.
Unless i could figure out how to salvage the one, and then i could make a second one??
Should i just throw out the thing that i made? (I could maybe give it to the dog?) or should i try to salvage the yarn?
Finally, i have left over georgeous yarn - about 1.5 skeins. What should i do with it? I like hats - they're easy and useful. But... do i need a hat in this yarn? Well, maybe i do.
In other news, i got my denise needle set and the stitch markers i ordered yesterday. These are the supplies i need to make the presents for my dad and Caitlin. You don't get to hear about Caitlin's because i want her to be picturing a big thick wool sweater until it arrives. But, for my dad...
I'm going ot make a hat. Just a really simple hat, i think. Ribbed at the bottom, and then every other rib will change into a basic cable. I was going to make it with leftover yarn from my sweater. But i also have some yarn leftover from Kim's slippers. The sweater yarn is sort of khaki brown and wool, and fluffy and would be warm, but maybe a tiny bit itchy?? The other yarn is sport weight washable wool blend. What do you think?
Other suggestions?
