Yesterday when i woke up, there was a dusting of snow on the ground. That was cool. Much of it was even still around when we got home in the evening.
This morning there was more snow. Yay!
For the record, folks, this is the kind of snow that a New Englander might sweep off their front steps with a broom. A Pittsburgher would probably ignore it. Here, however, it is huge news. Apparantly offices all around the city yesterday were empty because of the snow.
Well, i think all these people are wimps, and that this is a pathetic excuse for snow. Still, it makes me happy to see it.
In other news, the talk by Carl Haaisen (is that right blk?) last night was interesting. As one might expect, he is a relatively engaging speaker. He sounds like, in life, exactly what you might think. It was a cool and interesting way to spend an evening. Now we have a signed copy of a book, for what that is worth.
He reads the NY Times, and the Miami Herald, and occasionally the Washington Post. Personally, (skim really) the Seattle Times, the Miami Herald, and the Washington Post. I'm not very fond of the New York times. I'm not sure what I was expecting him to say.
After we got home, Heidi and Cory came over to play a game. It was fun. I lost, badly, but i still enjoyed it. Its been a long time since we did something like that.
Had some rum & jamaican ginger ale. Not bad. I think i like rum.
Ascension at Firepeak has sold about 750 copies through the distributer. Thats 150 more than they thought they had sold, and asked for, so we have to send off more copies, and collate the leftovers. This is great news. I wonder if a reprint will be in the future?
Now, to get HoS on to publishing other games (my job, and fault, i suppose).
I think i'm going to go on a semi-serious diet. I was lying around last night contemplating the squishiness of my stomach. All those milkshakes i've been drinking recently must be adding up.
Now back to work. My so called CORBA bug is the result of a bad optimization, that goes on long enough to make CORBA time out. Thing is, i can't seem to get the optimization in order. I worked on it all day yesterday, and made little progress. Every time i fix something, another weird thing happens. I think the objective function is stable, so I just have to keep mucking around with this until i get it right.
I'm a bit frustrated, and worried, because I really need to get past this problem. And I'd really like the code to be good.
At leat with debugging, though, my next step is usually obvious. That always makes me happy.
